Wednesday, April 22nd, marks the 50th year the world has come together to celebrate Earth Day, an annual holiday dedicated to the environmental movement and driving positive action to protect our planet’s future. In celebration, we wanted to highlight a project we are very proud to be a part of that encompasses what this special day is all about.

A few years ago, we had the privilege of volunteering our services to The Gardens at Heather Farms, a local non-profit organization in Walnut Creek, California, whose mission is to enrich the community through offering a free public garden and educational programs. They initially contacted us requesting UAV services, as they needed aerial photography and a promotional video to encourage new patrons to enjoy their beautiful gardens. After meeting with them, we expanded the scope of work when it became obvious that we could utilize our skills and services to benefit them in even greater ways.

One of the most impactful aspects of the Heather Farms project was the staking of their soon to be community garden. Guida plotted the area for 80 garden beds which Heather Farms provides to local individuals and families for a minimal rent charge, where they can grow their own food and build a beautiful thriving garden as a community. As we worked on the project, locals walking the gardens were very excited to see the progress and graciously thanked our field crew for their hard work. Although they were empty plots then, we are pleased to announce that in the years since Heather Farm’s vision has come true and the community garden is thriving!

Heather Farms is temporarily closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but you can see their stunning gardens in the video above; and if you are local, we highly recommend spending the day with your family celebrating nature when they open their gates again.
