Hearst Castle Neptune Pool Renovation
Hearst Castle Neptune Pool Renovation
The renovation of the iconic Neptune Pool (originally constructed in the 1920s) at Hearst Castle in San Simeon is a $5.4M state-funded project, which provides much-needed and long-overdue repairs that will prevent leaking and will preserve this piece of architectural history.
The project is unique in that some of the Neptune Pool’s structural elements, including Baroque and Art Deco marble sculptures, elaborate tilework, and pipelines and filtration, are to be carefully removed and replaced with a high-level of accuracy so that it remains identical to the design implemented over eight decades ago. Guida was asked to utilize our surveying skills to assist the contractor with scanning the sculptures and pool drainage before removal so that they could be replaced within 1/16th of an inch from their original location.
The Neptune Pool is impressive at 104 feet long, 58 feet wide, and 95 feet wide at the alcove. It is 3.5 feet deep at the west end, 10 feet at the drains, and holds 345,000 gallons of water. It is known to be one of the most famous and spectacular pools in the world.
